Bolivia in South America has two capital cities: Sucre (constitutional and judicial) and La Paz 

(administrative).It has more than 30 official languages, including Spanish, Quechua, Aymara, 

and Guaraní. It is named after Simon Bolivar, a prominent political leader who fought for 

independence from Spain. It has the highest lake in the world that is deep enough for sailing. 

boat: Lake Titicaca. It has one of the highest degrees of income inequality in the world and 

many Bolivians emigrate to neighboring countries for work.

Some Hazards in Bolivia are landslides and flooding.

Some Catastrophes are floods and landslides, especially in mountainous areas, are a regular 

feature of the rainy season, which runs from November to March. Roads are frequently 

impassable for days at a time during the rainy season.

Bolivia declared a natural disaster due to wildfires, 600 families were affected August 6, 2020

The difference between Disasters, catastrophes and hazards are Hazards are events that 

have potential for causing injury/loss of life or damage to property/environment. Disaster is an 

event that occurs suddenly/unexpectedly in most cases and disrupts the normal course of life 

in affected life. Castastrophe for disasters with knock -on effects(e.g. an earthquake that then 

leaves people stranded and vulnerable to the elements.
